Let’s say you’re in Phuket and are getting overwhelmed with all the noise and crowds? What do you do?
There are actually lots of places that you can escape to. But, if you’re short on time or just don’t want to venture out too far, you can hire a Thailand speed boat and head off to Coral Island.
What Is It?
Coral Island is a bit on the small side — it’s a granite island that’s 2.5 kilometers long and is mostly covered with jungle. Despite its size, it’s one of the most popular attractions in the area mainly because of the fact that it’s only around three kilometers away from Phuket. Simply hop on a short speed boat tour Phuket, and you’ll find yourself on Coral Island in no time.
Enjoying the Island
Its close proximity to Phuket means that Coral Island attracts a lot of visitors. In fact, its local name is Koh Hae, which doesn’t translate to “coral island” but rather to “crowded island”. If you visit it during daytime, you’ll most likely find yourself in the middle of a crowd, especially during peak season. You can deal with this in two ways: beat them or join them!
If you opt for the latter, simply grab a chair or sun lounger on Long Beach (the most popular beach on the island) and talk with other tourists while you sip on a cold beer or any other drink. If you’re in the mood for some water sports, get on a banana boat or go parasailing! It’s a great way to cool off while making some new friends and getting an adrenaline rush.
Snorkeling is possible on Long Beach, but you’ll likely find that most of the corals near the shore have been damaged. However, if you’re willing to swim a hundred meters from the shore, you’ll find more vibrant corals and plenty of attractive fish.
If you really want to enjoy some peace and tranquility, you can walk for 10 to 15 minutes to Banana Beach, which is located east of Long Beach and can be reached through a jungle trail. Alternatively, if you’re on a private boat tours Phuket, ask your captain to take you to the location. Many people still find their way to Banana Beach, but it’s generally quieter and is a better site for snorkeling. This is especially true for children and beginners, who can practice their skills on the shallow coral reef.
Aside from Banana Beach, you can also explore Freedom Beach. Since it’s on the other end of the island, you’ll reach it faster if you’re on Phuket boat charter private boat tours. You’ll find a small and usually quiet beach and decent snorkeling opportunities just offshore.
