It is safe to say that even the calmest of weather can turn nasty when you least expect it. This is exactly what happened to us when we went for a Phi Phi Islands speedboat tour. Luckily, we had the best crew onboard and we just sailed through it.
Will we sign up for speedboat tour again?
But only if we travel with Club Champagne! No one else! We mean it!
That fun and scary Phi Phi Islands boat tour
When we first decided to sign up for Thailand boat tours, we narrowed down our options to three – Private boat tours, PhangNga boat tours, and Phi Phi boat tours. We decided on the third option because of the many islands that make up Phi Phi Islands, all of which we can explore along the way, some of which have attractions worth checking out.
Koh Phi Phi Le, for example, has the Viking Cave, while the Bamboo Island or Koh Phai is said to be a tropical paradise. And boy was it a dream paradise. A Phi Phi Islands speed boat tour also means we’ll be able to check out the famous Maya Bay and dive at Shark Point and Anemone Reef.
So a speedboat to Phi Phi Islands it is.
It started out quite as well as can be expected. Club Champagne was very punctual, picking us up at 5 in the morning so we can catch the sunrise. The vessel we used was unlike any Thailand speed boat we have seen – very reliable, from the boat itself down to the crew.
And that reliability was sorely tested when the wind picked up speed all of a sudden. With the speed with which the speedboat was going, strong winds can be frightening. Add to this bigger waves, and the trip was looking like it was a bad idea.
But if there was one thing that turned our experience around is the level of calm the whole crew exhibited. It seems like the entire sea can grow angry and they would still take a speedboat to Phi Phi Islands, no questions about it.
So we figured we’ll only panic the moment the crew does.
Thankfully, the wind calmed down after a while and we continued to explore the Phi Phi Islands as though nothing happened. Yes, like nothing happened. It was quite astounding, really.
With the weather finally settling, we visited every island and attraction included in our itinerary. Halfway through the Phi Phi tour by speedboat, we forgot that we went through what could be a harrowing experience if not for the reliable crew of Club Champagne.
When we talked to them about the wind changes, they only said something about being used to the sudden change in seasonal winds, despite them being predictable most of the time. They are prepared for anything and will do anything to ensure our safety.
This made our Phi Phi Islands tour more enjoyable. Hey, if they’re not worried, considering they ply the same route on a daily basis, there’s no reason for us to worry either.
So the next time we decide to visit Phuket or Krabi, we’d still hire Club Champagne. No questions about it.
